A truck stop in Seymour, IN, suffered significant damage in an overnight fire on July 6, 2020. The fire happened in early morning hours, at around 2 a.m. at the T/A Travel Center near Highway 50 and Interstate 65.
The fire is estimated to have caused $2 million in damages.
Seymour Police Department’s official report states that the fire started in the building’s electrical utility room, which is located near the kitchen. There were no injuries in the blazing inferno.
Firefighters contained the fire, leaving only the west wing of the building damaged. Massive smoke damage is reportedly throughout the whole building.
Fire department Chief Brad Lucas said that the exact cause of the fire could not be pinpointed, however, it is believed an electrical issue caused it.
Lucas also added that the whole building’s electrical installation suffered substantial damage. The HVAC units also took damage and a walk-in cooler and all rooms that housed these devices.
Eight firefighters who were off-duty at the time of the fire were called to be available in case of another fire run, said Lucas.
