This year has been rough for everyone. It has been especially harsh for truck drivers, as they have been on the front lines battling the pandemic. While truckers are busy fighting, protests have shut down the bulk of major cities in the country.
Naturally, truckers did not like this turn of events, and they have voiced their opinion when it comes to delivering to cities that are planning to defund their police departments.
During these protests, looting became yet another problem for truckers on top of the everyday problems the job has. Now, truckers have the additional hurdle of worrying about their loads’ safety on top of their own.
The FBI Uniform Crime Report
Now, the FBI has had its report in the Uniform Crime Report. It is an annual report showing the crime rates in U.S. cities, and it shows the following as the top 10:
- Detroit, Michigan 1988.63
- Memphis, Tennessee 1740.51
- Oakland, California 1685.39
- St. Louis, Missouri 1678.73
- Milwaukee, Wisconsin 1476.41
- Baltimore, Maryland 1338.54
- Cleveland, Ohio 1334.35
- Stockton, California 1331.47
- Indianapolis, Indiana 1254.66
- Kansas City, Missouri 1251.45
A Reddit post by user diggsalot shows the swift response from trucking companies following current events. They were given a list of truck stops he was prohibited to stop at. Here’s the whole list:
The FBI report makes little to no difference for truckers, though, as looting seems to have taken place in most cities where protests were held. The recent news that city councils were planning to defund or completely disband police departments did not bode well with truckers. A recent poll by CDL Life shows that 79% of truckers said that they won’t drive to cities with defunded or disbanded police.
Truckers may be right for such a statement. There are many instances of cargo looting during a protest on the internet – here are but a few:

US Unrest: Looters raid UPS truck parked in San Jose, California
Truckers are also forced to defend themselves, as there were attempts at looting that ended up in a disaster.
