LUFKIN, TX – Official Texas Police report confirms that a semi driver didn’t survive a crash into an auto parts store early Wednesday morning.
The accident happened at 4:25 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, in Lufkin, Texas.
Police say that the trucker was traveling southward at the Tulane crossing point when for unknown reasons, he left the street and continued a few hundred yards prior to colliding with and through the AutoZone building situated on Timberland Drive.
The truck ground to a halt in a timberline behind an adjoining place of business.
When officials showed up on the scene, they confirmed the death of the driver. It took the fire department nearly 30 minutes to remove the trucker from the vehicle.
Police say that the truck brought down electrical cables and that two vehicles in the AutoZone parking area were severely damaged. Due to the damage of the power lines, 900 homes were briefly without power.
The identity of the deceased trucker has not yet been released. Police say that he was from out of state and that he was transporting bananas.
The reason for the accident is still being investigated.
